  • Responsible for all unit activities.

  • Part of the senior leadership team, the “Cadre,” of CO, XO, OPS and CMC.

  • Supervises, guides, and directs the Company Staff Officers, Team Commanders, and Platoon Leaders in ensuring all activities and training are planned, coordinated and executed efficiently.

  • Sets the standard and direction of morale, enthusiasm, and team spirit within the unit. Sets the highest standards of performance, conduct, military bearing, and courtesy as an example for all unit cadets.

  • Builds an effective chain of command and develops a positive command climate.

  • Ensures cadet compliance with policies and procedures of the program.

  • Creates suspense dates to accomplish unit missions and enforce standards.

  • Serves as a link between all cadets and the SNSI/NSI.

  • Advises the SNSI/NSI concerning all cadet matters.

  • Serves as a link between the unit and the Booster Club; attends all Booster Club meetings, tracks type and number of fundraising events, amount of funds generated and reports to staff

  • Second in command; assumes command and commander responsibilities in the Cadet Commander Officer’s absence.

  • Part of the senior leadership team, the “Cadre,” of CO, XO, OPS and CMC.

  • Serves as the Chief of Staff; supervises and coordinates the efforts of the staff in planning, coordination, and execution of unit events.

  • Frees the commander from routine details and passes pertinent data, information and insight from the staff to the commander and from the commander to the staff.

  • Ensures staff executes all duties, deadlines are met, and remains knowledgeable of the current status of staff actions.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer.

  • Handles cadet behavior matters within the unit in coordination with CMC.

Operations Officer

  • Assumes command and commander responsibilities in the absence of both the CO and XO.

  • Part of the senior leadership team, the “Cadre,” of CO, XO, OPS and CMC.

  • Is up-to-date and current on all CO and XO responsibilities in preparation for assuming command in the absence of both the CO and XO.

  • Receives operational control of any special project committees as directed by the commander.

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the schedule of all unit activities, ensuring everything is running smoothly.

  • Informs the XO of any conflicts or difficulties regarding events and/or schedules.

  • Advises the Commanding Officer on planning, coordinating and supervising activities of the unit.

  • Ensures staff deadlines are met and remains knowledgeable of the current status of staff actions.

  • Prepares and posts SALUTE reports for upcoming events; ensures completed SALUTE reports are maintained and service hours are tracked.

Command Master Chief

  • Principal advisor to the CO on the state of morale, discipline, and training of cadets within the unit.

  • Part of the senior leadership team, the “Cadre,” of CO, XO, OPS and CMC.

  • Advises the Commander on planning, coordinating and supervising activities of the unit.

  • Works as a link in communication to and from cadets to the cadet chain of command and staff.

  • Coordinates disciplinary matters for all cadets along with XO.

  • Take muster at unit events, competitions, and staff meetings and report to OPS/XO/CO.

  • Oversees the training and performance of the competition teams, knowledgeable in all teams.

  • Plan and supervise routine clean-up of unit spaces.   

  • Conduct a major field day of all unit spaces before command inspections and all other major evolutions.

Administrative Officer

  • Provides administrative support for the unit.

  • Prepares and maintains unit reports, rosters and records

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the execution of awards ceremonies, change of command ceremonies, advancement ceremonies, and social events in coordination with the Adjutant. 

  • Maintains unit records in CDMIS including awards, promotions, and community service hours.

  • Maintain all cadet administrative records in CDMIS.

  • Record the minutes of unit staff meetings and provide copies to all staff members.

  • Conducts weekly advancement training.

  • Updates and files advancement citations.

  • Works closely with platoon leaders to motivate and assist cadets who failed to advance during the four advancement cycles of the school year.

  • Maintains records of training and advancement in CDMIS in coordination with the Administration Officer.

  • Ensures all unit-level classes and training are rehearsed by cadet instructors and assistant instructors prior to execution.

Assistant Training Officer

  • Maintains and manages a team of Junior Supply Officers (J-SUPPOs)

  • Coordinates the receipt, distribution, and control of uniforms, supplies and equipment. 

  • Oversees armory officers and receives requests for restocking supplies and equipment.

  • Conducts inventories and maintains a continuous working knowledge of on-hand supplies and equipment within the unit.

  • Responsible for early coordination with and serves as a link between cadets and the platoon leaders for all uniform matters.

  • Assists SNSI/NSI with ordering, receipt, storage, issuance, inventory and accounting of uniform items and other unit materiel. 

  • Prepares cadet custody cards, maintains custody card file; keeps all invoices on file.

  • Maintains a consistent inventory of all supply materiel in CDMIS.

Assistant Supply Officer

Public Affairs Officer

  • Principal Staff Officer for all matters concerning recruiting, civil-military operations, and public affairs.

  • Responsible for enhancing the relationship between unit, community organizations, and civilian authorities to include LAHS staff and faculty, public information, internal information, community relations, written publications, photographs and related duties as required.

  • Specifically responsible for the written material, consolidation and publication of news articles following approval by SNSI/NSI in coordination with local media.

  • Serves as a focal point for local advertising of the program and coordinates publicizing benefits of membership in NJROTC.

  • Serves on event staff for planning and conducting events (Veterans Day, Blood Drive, etc.).

  • Present at every unit event to take pictures and notes for publication on both print and social media, or coordinate with the TECHNO to do so in the rare occurrence that they cannot attend.

Adjutant

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the execution of awards ceremonies, change of command ceremonies, advancement ceremonies, and social events in coordination with the Administration Officer.

  • Responsible for preparing and editing scripts for awards programs, military ball, and area manager inspection.

  • Manages the set up and clean up of facilities for official unit functions.

Technology Officer

  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the unit website.

  • Serves as the Assistant Public Affairs Officer and coordinates activities with them.

Drill Officer

  • Responsible for the inventory, care and maintenance, and condition of all drill locker contents. 

  • Ensures cadets are accountable for equipment being used.

  • Reports to Supply Officer and SNSI/NSI regarding repair parts, tools, and equipment.

  • Ensures color guard and armed drill team equipment is maintained and available at all times. 

  • Maintains equipment in good condition; initiates repairs as necessary.

  • Keeps the drill locker area secure, neat, and orderly.

NJROTC Values Cadet Leadership.

Most of the things done within our program are purely cadet-run. NJROTC Cadet Staff is made up of high school students who are selected to serve as leaders within the program. These cadets are responsible for organizing and leading activities, events, and training sessions, as well as serving as role models and mentors to their peers.
