Hailing from Grenada, Mississippi, Chief Petty Officer Elvis Ayers graduated boot camp in September 1997 from Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois, and attended Airman Apprenticeship School. His first sea tour was onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in Everett, Washington, as an aircraft arresting gear maintenance person and eventually as a Personnelman Third Class, completing two Western Pacific deployments while onboard. He separated in 2001 to attend college at the University of Mississippi, majoring in History and Social Science Education, and re-enlisted in 2005.

Upon re-enlistment, he attended Quartermaster “A" School in Great Lakes and received orders to USS DE WERT (FFG 45) in Mayport, Florida, completing three Counter-Narcotic-Terrorism deployments while advancing to Quartermaster Second Class. His first shore tour was at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam where he served as Harbor Dispatcher and USS Arizona Memorial Detachment Leading Petty Officer. While at JBPHH, he deployed to Forward Operating Base Orgun- E, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, was promoted to Quartermaster First Class, and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Historical and Political Studies from Chaminade University.

He was selected next for orders to USS DEWEY (DDG 105) in San Diego, California, completing three Western Pacific deployments, and was selected for Chief Petty Officer, also serving as the Command Financial Specialist. Upon his transfer in 2018, he reported to his final duty station at Afloat Training Group, Middle Pacific, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as Navigation Assessor, Mobility- Navigation Team Lead, and Command Drug and Alcohol Program Adviser.

Chief Ayers assumed the title of Senior Naval Science Instructor in the Los Alamos NJROTC program in 2022. He oversees all the curriculum and other items that are needed to make Topper Company run smoothly as well as the unarmed regulation, armed regulation, female color, and male/mixed color guard competition teams. He also oversees the welfare of cadets and the planning and implementation of ideas proposed by cadet staff. Chief Ayers teaches academics on selected days while also performing his other duties around the unit spaces. Alongside running Topper Company, Chief Ayers also teaches Military Fitness and Oceanography courses.

His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and two Navy Achievement Medals.
